Careers & Education in Commercial Construction

Whether you are new to the construction industry or a seasoned veteran you need to know how propel and strengthen your career through knowledge. There are a number of ways the Lethbridge Construction Association can help you or your staff find what is needed for a qualified and fulfilling career.

Apprenticeship – Many in the construction industry find that apprenticing in a trade is a great way to earn while you learn and find your path into this great opportunity. Companies are always on the look out for qualified and skilled trades workers with a passion for their trade.  LCA can let you know the various trades you can apprentice in and put you in touch with the people and agencies who will help you get started. Apprenticeships are available for high school students, graduated young adults, up to the mature individual looking for a fresh start.

Education – Formal education is a great way to learn construction skills along with others in a classroom or field setting by qualified and caring instructors who are committed to training and raising up the skilled construction workers and leaders of tomorrow.  Call LCA and find out the programs and schools that have the courses and classes you need to build a firm foundation for your career.

Scholarships – If you are an apprentice working for an LCA member company you may be eligible for a cash scholarship to assist you in your apprenticeship. Application forms are available from the LCA  office every fall with scholarships awarded the following spring.

Safety – The LCA believes in safety on the worksite and have partnered with the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) to bring safety training courses to Lethbridge, as well as provide on-line safety courses, safety posters and literature, and a video safety library. Many courses can be used in qualifying for various industry tickets and safety officer designations.
